Overview

TLP0-001 (marketed under the **Vaccell** brand platform) is an autologous dendritic cell (DC) vaccine developed by the Japanese biotechnology company **Tella Co., Ltd.** in collaboration with academic institutions such as Wakayama Medical University and Nagasaki University Hospital. This personalized immunotherapy involves harvesting a patient's own monocyte-derived dendritic cells through apheresis, which are then matured ex vivo—often using the streptococcal preparation **OK-432 (Picibanil)** as an adjuvant to stimulate interleukin-12 production—and pulsed with synthetic peptides derived from two tumor-associated antigens (TAAs): **Mucin 1 (MUC1)** and **Wilms' tumor protein 1 (WT1)**. Upon re-administration, typically via intradermal or subcutaneous injection, these professional antigen-presenting cells activate and expand MUC1- and WT1-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocytes (CTLs) that target and lyse cancer cells overexpressing these proteins. While the therapy reached a pivotal Phase III clinical trial for advanced pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma in Japan, commercial development was essentially halted following the bankruptcy of Tella Co., Ltd. in August 2022.
