TMED9 siRNA is a research-grade small interfering RNA (siRNA) designed to knock down the expression of the TMED9 gene in cellular models. TMED9, also known as Transmembrane Emp24 Domain-containing Protein 9, is a cargo receptor located within the early secretory pathway (endoplasmic reticulum-Golgi intermediate compartment) that facilitates the bidirectional trafficking of various proteins, including EGFR, TGF-α, and WNT. In preclinical research, TMED9 siRNA has been utilized to investigate the role of TMED9 in several solid tumors, such as glioma, glioblastoma, and breast cancer, where the protein is frequently upregulated and associated with poor patient survival. By silencing TMED9, researchers have demonstrated a significant reduction in the migratory and invasive capacities of cancer cell lines. Additionally, it is used as a laboratory tool to study protein quality control mechanisms, specifically the clearance of misfolded GPI-anchored proteins from the endoplasmic reticulum.
