Overview

tMUC1 targeting peptide is a synthetic peptide developed by OncoTab that specifically binds to the tumor-associated form of Mucin 1 (tMUC1). Mucin 1 is a transmembrane glycoprotein that is normally heavily glycosylated; however, in over 80% of human adenocarcinomas, such as breast and pancreatic cancers, it becomes overexpressed and hypoglycosylated (tMUC1), exposing unique epitopes. This peptide is designed to serve as a high-affinity ligand for molecular imaging applications to detect tMUC1-positive tumors or as a targeting vehicle for the delivery of therapeutic payloads, such as radionuclides or cytotoxic drugs. By selectively targeting the aberrant form of MUC1 found on malignant cells, the peptide aims to provide high diagnostic sensitivity and minimize off-target effects on healthy tissues. It is currently in the preclinical and discovery stages of development.
