TMX-049

TMX-049 is a novel, non-purine xanthine oxidase inhibitor developed by Teijin Pharma. It acts by selectively inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase, thereby reducing uric acid production. This mechanism positions it as a potential treatment for conditions associated with hyperuricemia and uric acid-mediated kidney damage. The drug has been primarily investigated for its effects in patients with type 2 diabetic nephropathy (DKD), where it demonstrated significant reductions in albuminuria and serum uric acid levels in phase II clinical trials. Preclinical studies also showed that TMX-049 attenuates renal injury in animal models of diabetic kidney disease without affecting other metabolic parameters[1][4][5][6][8]. The drug is administered orally and has shown a favorable safety profile to date.
