Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TMX ET is a combination oral tablet containing the antifibrinolytic agent tranexamic acid and the hemostatic agent ethamsylate (etamsylate). Developed and marketed by Ind Blues Pharma, it is primarily indicated for the treatment of heavy menstrual bleeding (menorrhagia) and dysfunctional uterine bleeding. Tranexamic acid works by reversibly binding to lysine-binding sites on plasminogen, preventing its activation to plasmin and thereby inhibiting fibrinolysis (the breakdown of blood clots). Ethamsylate acts on primary hemostasis by improving platelet adhesiveness, promoting platelet aggregation, and restoring capillary resistance, partly through the inhibition of prostacyclin (PGI2) synthesis. Together, the two active ingredients provide a synergistic effect to control excessive bleeding and reduce blood loss.
