Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TNF-α inhibitor + methotrexate is a combination therapy that pairs tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α) inhibitors with methotrexate (MTX) for the treatment of inflammatory conditions, particularly rheumatoid arthritis. This combination has shown synergistic effects, with MTX enhancing the efficacy of TNF inhibitors by increasing their blood concentrations and reducing immunogenicity. The combination therapy leads to rapid clinical remission, improved quality of life, and better long-term outcomes compared to monotherapy, especially in autoantibody-positive rheumatoid arthritis patients. TNF-α inhibitors in this combination may include adalimumab, etanercept, infliximab, golimumab, or certolizumab pegol.
