TNX-1200 is a live synthesized vaccinia virus vaccine candidate being developed by Tonix Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with the University of Alberta. Utilizing synthetic biology techniques, the vaccine was synthesized by Professor David Evans and Dr. Ryan Noyce to serve as a potential medical countermeasure for the prevention and treatment of smallpox and monkeypox. TNX-1200 represents a synthetic version of the vaccinia virus, which has a long history of use in smallpox immunization programs. It is distinct from Tonix's other orthopoxvirus vaccine candidate, TNX-801, which is based on a synthetic horsepox virus.
