Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TNX-601 is an oral **small-molecule** crystalline oxalate salt formulation of tianeptine being developed by Tonix Pharmaceuticals for neuropsychiatric indications including major depressive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and corticosteroid-associated neurocognitive dysfunction. Compared with the older amorphous sodium salt form of tianeptine, the oxalate salt was developed to improve stability, consistency, and manufacturability. Pharmacologically, tianeptine oxalate is described as indirectly modulating glutamatergic neurotransmission involving AMPA and NMDA receptor signaling and as a weak mu-opioid receptor agonist; its exact antidepressant mechanism is not fully defined. Tonix has also explored related modified-release versions, but the specific drug here is the oxalate salt formulation TNX-601 rather than the naloxone-containing controlled-release combination or the separate extended-release product designation.
