Overview

TO-O-1007 is an intravitreal implant developed by Theratocular Biotek for the treatment of geographic atrophy (GA), a late-stage form of dry age-related macular degeneration. It is a 505(b)(2) drug-repurposing candidate that utilizes a clinically validated small-molecule inhibitor of Complement Component 5 (C5). The drug is delivered via a 6-month sustained-release biodegradable PLGA (poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)) implant, which is ultra-thin (~0.3 mm diameter) and requires a custom injector for administration. By inhibiting C5, TO-O-1007 aims to reduce inflammatory signaling and the formation of the membrane attack complex (MAC), thereby slowing retinal cell loss and the progression of GA. It is designed to be PEG-free to avoid safety risks associated with polyethylene glycol.
