Tobevibart is an investigational broadly neutralizing monoclonal antibody that targets the hepatitis B surface antigen. It is designed to inhibit the entry of hepatitis B and hepatitis delta viruses into hepatocytes and reduce levels of circulating viral and subviral particles in the blood. Tobevibart incorporates Xencor’s Xtend™ and other Fc technologies for extended half-life and was identified using Vir Biotechnology’s proprietary discovery platform. It is administered subcutaneously and is currently in clinical development for chronic hepatitis B and chronic hepatitis delta. Mechanistically, it acts by neutralizing viral entry into hepatocytes (neutralization), presenting HBsAg-derived peptides to stimulate T cells (potential vaccinal effect), and clearing HBsAg/virions via antibody-dependent cellular phagocytosis[1][3][5][6].
