Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Talivue-LS Eye Ointment is a fixed-dose combination ophthalmic medication containing the aminoglycoside antibiotic tobramycin and the corticosteroid loteprednol etabonate. Marketed by Akrovis Pharmaceuticals, it is indicated for the treatment of steroid-responsive inflammatory ocular conditions, such as palpebral and bulbar conjunctivitis, uveitis, and corneal injury, where a risk of superficial bacterial ocular infection exists. Tobramycin provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria. Loteprednol etabonate acts as a "soft steroid" glucocorticoid receptor agonist to suppress the inflammatory response; it is uniquely engineered to undergo rapid enzymatic transformation into inactive metabolites, which minimizes the risk of corticosteroid-induced side effects such as elevated intraocular pressure (IOP).
