Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tobramycin Cyclops® is a dry powder inhaler (DPI) formulation of the aminoglycoside antibiotic tobramycin, developed by PureIMS for the treatment of chronic pulmonary *Pseudomonas aeruginosa* infections. It utilizes the proprietary Cyclops® technology, a high-dose, disposable, and pre-filled inhaler designed for efficient pulmonary delivery. Tobramycin acts as a bacterial protein synthesis inhibitor by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, which disrupts the translation process and leads to bacterial cell death. This formulation is specifically intended for patients with cystic fibrosis and bronchiectasis, providing a more convenient and faster administration alternative to traditional nebulized tobramycin therapies while achieving high lung concentrations with minimal systemic exposure.
