tocainide

Tocainide is a small molecule, orally active class 1b antiarrhythmic agent and a primary amine analog of lidocaine. It is used to treat life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias by blocking voltage-gated sodium channels in cardiac cells, particularly in their inactivated state. This action decreases the excitability and automaticity of myocardial cells, stabilizes cardiac membranes, and helps restore normal heart rhythm. Tocainide is structurally related to lidocaine but has better oral bioavailability and a longer half-life. It was marketed under the brand name Tonocard but has been discontinued in some regions[1][2][3][4][5][6].
