Overview

**Toceranib** is an anti-cancer drug classified as a **small molecule tyrosine kinase inhibitor**. It was developed specifically for veterinary use, particularly for dogs, and was the first canine cancer therapy approved by the FDA. Toceranib inhibits multiple receptor tyrosine kinases, interfering with cell signaling that regulates tumor cell proliferation and angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels). This dual action both directly kills tumor cells and deprives them of blood supply needed for growth. Clinically, toceranib is primarily indicated for the treatment of canine mast cell tumors, but has also been reported in veterinary studies as beneficial for other cancers such as sarcomas, carcinomas, melanomas, heart base tumors, gastrointestinal stromal tumors, anal sac adenocarcinomas, and thyroid carcinomas[1][4][5][6][7][9].
