Overview
Tochu extract is an aqueous extract of *Eucommia ulmoides* (Tochu) leaves, traditionally consumed as Tochu tea in Japan and China. Developed primarily by Kobayashi Pharmaceutical, it is used as a dietary supplement and functional food to support cardiovascular and renal health. The extract contains active iridoid glycosides, most notably geniposidic acid, which have been shown to lower blood pressure, improve renal hemodynamics, and suppress hypertensive renal damage. Its mechanism of action involves the suppression of NADPH oxidase and the upregulation of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), leading to reduced vascular resistance and improved blood flow.
