Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tofimilast is a selective phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) inhibitor developed for the treatment of inflammatory airway diseases, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma. As a PDE4 inhibitor, tofimilast works by increasing intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels in immune and structural cells, leading to reduced inflammation in the airways. Tofimilast is structurally related to other PDE4 inhibitors like roflumilast but is a distinct chemical entity. It has been investigated primarily for its anti-inflammatory effects in respiratory conditions.
