Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tokishakuyakusan is a traditional Japanese Kampo (herbal) medicine composed of six crude drugs: Japanese Angelica root (Toki), Peony root (Shakuyaku), Cnidium rhizome (Senkyu), Poria sclerotium (Bukuryo), Atractylodes lancea rhizome (Sojutsu), and Alisma rhizome (Takusha). It is widely prescribed in Japan for women's health conditions, particularly those characterized by physical weakness, poor circulation (sensitivity to cold), anemia, and fatigue. Common indications include menstrual irregularities, dysmenorrhea, menopausal symptoms, and gestational disorders (such as edema and abdominal pain during pregnancy). Mechanistically, Tokishakuyakusan is believed to improve blood circulation, regulate water metabolism (via aquaporin modulation), and exert anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects.
