Overview
Tolamba (AIC) is an investigational biologic immunotherapeutic developed by Dynavax Technologies in collaboration with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). It is composed of the major ragweed allergen, Amb a 1, chemically linked to a proprietary immunostimulatory sequence (ISS) of oligodeoxyribonucleotide. The drug functions by targeting Toll-Like Receptor 9 (TLR-9) on dendritic cells and B cells, which redirects the immune system's response to ragweed from a Th2-type allergic response to a Th1-type protective response. This mechanism is intended to induce long-term immune tolerance and reduce symptoms of ragweed-induced asthma and allergic rhinitis with a short course of treatment.
