tolamolol

Tolamolol is a phenoxypropranolamine derivative and a cardioselective beta adrenergic receptor antagonist (beta-blocker). It preferentially inhibits myocardial beta adrenoreceptors, with potency equivalent to propranolol but with greater cardioselectivity. Tolamolol effectively lowers blood pressure in patients with mild essential hypertension and reduces plasma renin activity. It has been shown to control ventricular rate in supraventricular arrhythmias and reduce the frequency of ventricular ectopic beats. Tolamolol is particularly useful for patients who require cardiac beta blockade but have obstructive pulmonary disease, due to its selectivity.
