Tolerogenic fibroblasts are a specialized cell therapy developed by FibroBiologics for the treatment of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, most notably multiple sclerosis (MS). These cells are engineered or selected to possess potent immunomodulatory properties, producing anti-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-10 (IL-10) and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta). Unlike mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), fibroblasts are more abundant, easier to source, and exhibit faster doubling rates in culture. In the context of MS, they are hypothesized to induce immune tolerance, enhance myelin production, and prevent neuronal apoptosis through the secretion of neurotrophic mediators.
