tolnaftate

Tolnaftate is a synthetic thiocarbamate antifungal agent used topically to treat superficial fungal infections such as athlete's foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), and ringworm (tinea corporis). It is available over-the-counter in various formulations including creams, powders, sprays, gels, and solutions. Tolnaftate acts as a fungicide by inhibiting squalene epoxidase—an enzyme critical for ergosterol biosynthesis in fungi—leading to disruption of the fungal cell membrane.
