Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tongfeng Kangning is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by Tianjin Tianzhong Pharmaceutical Technology Co., Ltd. for the treatment of acute gouty arthritis. It is primarily administered in capsule form. The drug is designed to target the Damp-Heat Stasis syndrome associated with gout in TCM theory. Its pharmacological mechanism involves the suppression of the inflammatory cascade triggered by monosodium urate crystals, specifically by inhibiting the expression and release of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α). Clinical development in China has progressed through Phase III trials, evaluating its efficacy in reducing joint pain, swelling, and dysfunction compared to conventional therapies like colchicine.
