Tongfu capsules fluid is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine (also known as Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Chinese Medicine). It is administered as a retention enema for the prevention of stroke-associated pneumonia (SAP) in high-risk acute stroke patients. The treatment is based on the TCM principle of "Lung being connected with Large Intestine," which suggests that dredging the intestines (Tongfu) can help clear heat and toxins from the lungs. The preparation is derived from Tongfu capsules, which typically contain botanical ingredients such as *Rheum palmatum* (Da Huang) intended to promote gastrointestinal motility, reduce abdominal distension, and modulate systemic inflammatory responses.
