Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tongfu Qinghua Decoction Enema is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formulation administered rectally for the treatment of acute pancreatitis. The decoction consists of several herbs, including rhubarb (*Rheum palmatum*), mirabilite (*Natrii Sulfas*), *Magnolia officinalis* bark, fried immature bitter orange (*Citrus aurantium*), dandelion (*Taraxacum*), *Patrinia* herb, *Polygonum cuspidatum*, honeysuckle (*Lonicera japonica*), and *Salvia miltiorrhiza*. It is designed to promote gastrointestinal motility, reduce local and systemic inflammation, and improve clinical recovery in patients with acute pancreatitis. The mechanism involves the synergistic effects of its components, which are believed to inhibit pancreatic secretion, reduce inflammatory biomarkers like C-reactive protein and procalcitonin, and facilitate the recovery of bowel function. It is often evaluated as an adjunct to conventional medical treatments such as fluid resuscitation and nutritional support.
