Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tongjiang granule is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formulation developed by Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences. It is composed of concentrated herbal particles produced by spray drying hot water extracts from a mixture of raw herbs, following TCM principles. The formulation is specifically designed for patients with non-erosive reflux disease (NERD), particularly those diagnosed with liver-stomach depression-heat syndrome according to TCM diagnostics. Mechanistically, as an herbal compound, its action is based on multi-target modulation typical for TCM formulas; it aims to relieve symptoms such as heartburn and regurgitation in NERD patients who do not respond adequately to proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Clinical studies have shown that Tongjiang granule can improve quality of life and reduce symptom recurrence rates in NERD without significant adverse effects[1][4][6]. It has also been investigated for overlapping gastrointestinal symptoms such as epigastric pain and functional dysphonia[1][7][8].
