Tongkuaixiao

Tongkuaixiao is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) topical ointment developed by the China-Japan Friendship Hospital for the management of cancer pain. It is an external herbal preparation designed to be used as an adjuvant therapy alongside systemic analgesics, such as morphine, to improve pain control and potentially reduce the required dose of opioids. The formulation is applied topically to the site of pain, where its herbal constituents are absorbed transdermally to provide localized analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects. Clinical research, including standardization studies registered in the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry (ChiCTR), has focused on its efficacy in treating moderate to severe cancer-related pain by evaluating its impact on pain intensity and patient quality of life.
