Tongluo Jiannao

Tongluo Jiannao (also known as Tongluo Jiannao Tablets or Compound Ginkgo Biloba Tablets) is an oral traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) tablet developed by Youcare Pharmaceutical Group and its subsidiary Guangzhou Yuekang Biology Pharmacy for the treatment of mild-to-moderate vascular dementia (specifically of the 'blood-stasis obstructing brain collaterals' TCM pattern). The herbal formulation is derived from an empirical prescription and consists of five active ingredients: Ginkgo biloba extract, earthworm (dilong), epimedium (yinyanghuo), Chuanxiong (Ligusticum chuanxiong), and Polygala tenuifolia (yuanzhi). These components work synergistically to promote blood circulation, resolve stasis, remove phlegm, dredge collaterals, and improve cognitive function. In October 2023, a Phase III clinical trial of Tongluo Jiannao reached its primary endpoint, demonstrating superior efficacy and a favorable safety profile. Although an NDA was submitted and accepted by China's NMPA in early 2024, Youcare Pharmaceutical Group proactively withdrew the application in June 2026 based on the latest regulatory review recommendations to conduct additional clinical studies and supplement case data before resubmitting.
