Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tongluo Jiunao is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) injection developed by Inner Mongolia Kangyuan Pharmaceutical for the treatment of acute cerebral infarction (ischemic stroke). It is a standardized herbal preparation primarily composed of extracts from *Panax notoginseng* (Sanchi) and *Gardenia jasminoides* (Zhizi), with key active constituents including ginsenoside Rg1, ginsenoside Rb1, and geniposide. The drug is designed to address the TCM syndrome of 'wind-fire disturbing upward and blood stasis blocking collaterals.' Mechanistically, Tongluo Jiunao provides neuroprotection by reducing cerebral edema, inhibiting inflammatory cytokine release, and preventing neuronal apoptosis in the ischemic penumbra. It has undergone Phase II clinical evaluation in China to assess its safety and efficacy in patients during the acute phase of stroke.
