Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tongluo Mingmu Capsule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation primarily developed and evaluated by The First Affiliated Hospital of Harbin Medical University for the treatment of non-proliferative diabetic retinopathy (NPDR). The therapeutic approach of the capsule is based on the TCM principles of "Tongluo" (dredging collaterals) and "Mingmu" (improving eyesight), which translate to improving microcirculation and protecting retinal health. It is intended to address the underlying pathology of diabetic retinopathy, such as retinal ischemia and increased vascular permeability, by modulating inflammatory pathways and potentially inhibiting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression. Clinical studies, including Phase 4 trials in China, aim to confirm its efficacy in stabilizing or improving visual acuity and reducing retinal lesions in patients with type 2 diabetes.
