Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tongluo Shenggu is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formulation primarily available as an oral capsule. It is used clinically for the treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteonecrosis of the femoral head (GIONFH) and other orthopedic conditions. The formulation consists mainly of water extracts from pigeon pea leaves and may include other herbal ingredients such as Rhizoma Drynariae, Herba Sarcandrae, and Radix Notoginseng[6][4][3]. Its mechanism centers on promoting angiogenesis by upregulating the VEGF-VEGFR2-PKC-Raf-1-MEK-ERK signaling pathway, which helps ameliorate vascular damage associated with osteonecrosis. Additional pharmacological actions include anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects[6][4]. The product has been in clinical use in China for several years.
