Overview
Tongmai Fuzhi Decoction is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) herbal formula used primarily for the treatment of vascular dementia and related cognitive disorders. It is an empirical prescription developed within the TCM framework and typically consists of multiple herbal ingredients designed to address deficiency, phlegm dampness, and blood stasis—key pathological factors in vascular dementia according to TCM theory. The decoction's mechanism of action is believed to involve inhibition of neuroinflammatory pathways such as the NLRP3 inflammasome, TNF signaling pathway, and toll-like receptor signaling pathway. These actions may reduce neuroinflammation and protect against cognitive decline[1][2][3]. The formula has been studied in clinical settings as an adjunctive therapy for vascular dementia.
