Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tongxiening Granule is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) formulation developed by researchers at Anhui Provincial Hospital for the treatment of diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-D). Derived from the classic "Tongxie Yaofang" formula, it consists of four primary herbal components: *Atractylodes macrocephala*, *Paeonia lactiflora*, *Citrus reticulata*, and *Saposhnikovia divaricata*. The drug works through multiple pathways, including the reduction of visceral hypersensitivity, modulation of the brain-gut axis (specifically targeting 5-hydroxytryptamine levels), and restoration of gut microbiota balance. Clinical studies have demonstrated its efficacy in improving abdominal pain and stool consistency in IBS-D patients by regulating inflammatory cytokines and intestinal barrier function.
