Overview
Tongyang Xuanbi Recipe is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula primarily developed for the treatment of cardiovascular conditions, specifically coronary heart disease (CHD) and angina pectoris associated with "phlegm-stasis obstruction" syndrome. The formula is designed to "unblock Yang" and "dispel phlegm," addressing the underlying TCM pathology of chest obstruction (Xiong Bi). Pharmacologically, the recipe has been shown to reduce inflammatory markers such as C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), while also improving lipid profiles and myocardial blood supply. It is frequently studied as an adjunctive therapy to standard Western medical treatments, including antiplatelet agents and statins, to enhance clinical efficacy and reduce the recurrence of angina symptoms.
