Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tonsilotren (SilAtro-5-90) is a complex homeopathic medicinal product developed by Deutsche Homöopathie-Union (DHU) for the treatment of inflammatory conditions of the throat. It is a fixed-dose combination of five homeopathic ingredients: Atropinum sulfuricum, Hepar sulfuris, Kalium bichromicum, Silicea, and Mercurius bijodatus. The drug is indicated for acute and chronic tonsillitis (including catarrhal, lacunar, and follicular forms), enlargement of the tonsils in childhood, and as an adjunct therapy to accelerate healing of the pharyngeal mucosa after tonsillectomy. It is formulated as oral tablets/lozenges and is intended to exert anti-inflammatory effects, stimulate tissue regeneration, and support local immunity. Tonsilotren has been evaluated in a Phase III international, pragmatic, randomized controlled clinical trial (ISRCTN19016626) for chronic/recurrent tonsillitis, demonstrating efficacy in reducing the frequency and severity of episodes over a 60-week observation period.
