Topacal C-5

Topacal C-5 is a topical remineralizing agent formulated as a paste or gel, primarily used for the prevention and treatment of dental caries and the remineralization of early enamel lesions (white spots). It contains 5% Casein Phosphopeptide-Amorphous Calcium Phosphate (CPP-ACP), a milk-derived complex that stabilizes high concentrations of calcium and phosphate ions in an amorphous, non-crystalline state. When applied to the tooth surface, the CPP component binds to the dental biofilm and enamel, maintaining a supersaturated state of calcium and phosphate at the tooth surface. This promotes the diffusion of these minerals into the enamel subsurface, facilitating the reconstruction of hydroxyapatite crystals and reversing early demineralization. The product was developed by NSI (Nippon Shika Yakuhin) and has been evaluated in clinical trials, including those conducted by the Department of Health in Hong Kong, for its efficacy in enamel remineralization.
