Topical apremilast nanoemulsion is an investigational nanoparticle-based formulation of the phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor apremilast. Developed by researchers at Assiut University, specifically at the Assiut International Center of Nanomedicine, this formulation is designed for the treatment of localized mild to moderate plaque psoriasis. By utilizing a nanoemulsion delivery system, the drug aims to enhance skin penetration and local therapeutic efficacy while minimizing the systemic adverse effects typically associated with oral apremilast administration. In clinical studies, it is being evaluated both as a monotherapy and in combination with topical corticosteroids to improve tissue-level responses and reduce corticosteroid-related side effects.
