Topical DIBI (DIBI cream) is a preclinical-stage topical formulation of DIBI, a synthetic, water-soluble, iron-binding copolymer developed by Chelation Partners (now Fe Pharmaceuticals). DIBI is composed of N-vinylpyrrolidone and a 3-hydroxypyridin-4-one (HPO) methacrylamide monomer, providing a high-affinity iron-chelating structure that binds ferric iron (Fe3+) with exceptional stability. By topically sequestering extracellular iron, Topical DIBI deprives bacterial and fungal pathogens of an essential nutrient required for growth, replication, and biofilm formation. This non-antibiotic mechanism of action is highly effective against drug-resistant pathogens, including methicillin-resistant *Staphylococcus aureus* (MRSA) and *Pseudomonas aeruginosa*, without promoting the development of resistance. Topical DIBI is being developed for the treatment of serious skin and soft tissue infections, diabetic ulcers, and chronic wounds, with potential expansion into burns, sickle cell ulcers, and pressure ulcers.
