Overview
Topical rFVIIa (topical eptacog alfa) is a recombinant protein therapeutic being developed by Stellaris Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). It consists of recombinant activated Factor VII (rFVIIa), which acts by binding to exposed Tissue Factor (TF) at the site of injury, initiating the extrinsic pathway of the coagulation cascade and promoting localized hemostasis. Unlike systemic rFVIIa (eptacog alfa), which is administered intravenously for hemophilia, this formulation is designed for topical application to control bleeding directly at the source, potentially reducing systemic side effects. It is currently in the preclinical stage of development.
