topical trametinib

Topical trametinib is a small molecule MEK (mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase) inhibitor being developed by Albany Research Institute, Inc. for the treatment of erythematotelangiectatic rosacea. The drug is a topical cream formulation (0.1 mg/g) of trametinib, which was originally developed as an oral therapy (Mekinist) for various cancers. It works by inhibiting the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) pathway, which is believed to play a role in the inflammatory and vascular dysregulation characteristic of rosacea. In a Phase I clinical trial known as TOMIR, the topical formulation demonstrated safety and tolerability with no significant systemic absorption.
