Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Topical TA (topical tranexamic acid) is an investigational topical formulation of the antifibrinolytic small molecule drug tranexamic acid. It is being evaluated by Aswan University Hospital in clinical trials to reduce intraoperative blood loss during abdominal myomectomy in patients with uterine fibroids. Tranexamic acid is a synthetic lysine analog that competitively inhibits the activation of plasminogen to plasmin by binding to the lysine-binding sites of plasminogen. This blockade prevents plasmin from binding to and degrading fibrin, thereby stabilizing fibrin clots and reducing hemorrhage. The topical route of administration is designed to deliver high local concentrations of the drug directly to the surgical wound site while minimizing systemic absorption and associated systemic side effects.
