Overview
ETS-2300 is an intravenous formulation of topiramate, a sulfamate-substituted monosaccharide anticonvulsant. It was developed by Exela Pharma Sciences for the treatment of seizures in patients who are unable to take oral medications. Topiramate exhibits a complex mechanism of action that includes the blockade of voltage-gated sodium channels, enhancement of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) activity at GABA-A receptors, and antagonism of the AMPA/kainate subtype of glutamate receptors. Additionally, it acts as a weak inhibitor of carbonic anhydrase isoenzymes. Eton Pharmaceuticals previously held the U.S. marketing rights to the candidate but returned them to Exela Pharma Sciences in August 2022.
