topiroxostat

Topiroxostat is a selective, non-purine xanthine oxidase inhibitor developed for the treatment and management of hyperuricemia and gout. By inhibiting xanthine oxidase (also known as xanthine oxidoreductase), an enzyme involved in purine metabolism, topiroxostat reduces the production of uric acid, thereby lowering serum urate levels. Unlike purine analogs such as allopurinol, topiroxostat is effective even in patients with renal impairment because its pharmacokinetics are less affected by kidney function. It has been approved for use in Japan since 2013 and is marketed under the brand names Topiloric and Uriadec. The drug is administered orally, typically twice daily[1][2][3][7].
