topisistat

Topisistat is a potent, selective, non-purine xanthine oxidase inhibitor (XOI) developed for the management of hyperuricemia and gout. By inhibiting the enzyme xanthine oxidase, which catalyzes the oxidation of hypoxanthine to xanthine and xanthine to uric acid, topisistat effectively lowers serum uric acid levels. Unlike purine-like inhibitors such as allopurinol, topisistat does not interfere with other enzymes in the purine or pyrimidine metabolic pathways, potentially offering a better safety profile. It was originally developed by Fuji Yakuhin and received its first global approval in Japan in 2013. In China, Sinopharm Rongsheng Pharmaceutical is currently evaluating the drug in Phase II clinical trials to establish dose-response relationships and efficacy in the local population.
