Torcytech-S

Torcytech-S is a fixed-dose combination oral medication developed and marketed by Cytech Pharma in India. It contains 10 mg of torasemide and 50 mg of spironolactone. Torasemide is a loop diuretic that inhibits the Na+-K+-2Cl- cotransporter (NKCC2) in the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle, leading to significant excretion of water and electrolytes. Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic that acts as a competitive antagonist of the mineralocorticoid receptor (aldosterone receptor), primarily in the distal renal tubules. By combining these two agents, Torcytech-S effectively manages edema and fluid retention associated with congestive heart failure, liver cirrhosis with ascites, and nephrotic syndrome, while helping to maintain potassium balance. It is particularly indicated when a potassium-sparing adjunct is necessary to prevent hypokalemia induced by loop diuretics.
