Overview

Toreforant is a selective small molecule antagonist of the histamine H4 receptor. It was developed for the treatment of immune-mediated inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. The drug acts by blocking the histamine H4 receptor, which is implicated in modulating immune cell chemotaxis and cytokine release involved in inflammation. Toreforant showed some efficacy signals in early clinical trials but did not meet primary endpoints in later phase studies for rheumatoid arthritis or psoriasis. Development was sponsored by Janssen Research & Development.
