Tosufloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic used to treat a wide range of infections, including skin, respiratory, urinary, gynecological, ophthalmologic, otorhinologic (ear/nose/throat), and dental/oral surgical infections[1][4][7]. It acts as a bactericidal agent by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV—enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication and transcription[4][6]. Tosufloxacin is known for its broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. However, it has a controversial safety profile compared to other fluoroquinolones due to associations with severe thrombocytopenia (low platelet count), nephritis (kidney inflammation), and hepatotoxicity (liver toxicity)[3][4]. The drug is marketed in Japan under the brand name Ozex[3].
