TOTUM448 is a plant-based, polyphenol-rich active substance developed by Valbiotis as a non-drug preventive approach for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), including non-alcoholic fatty liver (NAFL) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). It is a patented combination of five plant extracts and choline. The formulation is designed to target hepatic steatosis, inflammation, and fibrosis. Its mechanism of action involves the modulation of the gut microbiota and the reduction of pro-inflammatory macrophage recruitment to the liver, while preserving tissue-resident Kupffer cells. Preclinical data indicate that TOTUM448 improves metabolic parameters, including insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance, and reduces fat accumulation in the liver.
