Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Tou-Tong-Ting decoction is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) herbal formula developed by researchers at the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine specifically for the treatment of migraine. It is typically composed of several botanical ingredients, including *Ligusticum chuanxiong* (Chuanxiong) and *Angelica dahurica* (Baizhi), which are traditionally used to dispel wind and relieve pain. The therapeutic mechanism is believed to involve the modulation of vasoactive neurotransmitters and neuropeptides, such as reducing levels of Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide (CGRP) and Endothelin-1 (ET-1) while increasing Serotonin (5-HT) levels. These actions help to alleviate neurogenic inflammation and regulate cerebral blood flow, thereby reducing the frequency and intensity of migraine attacks.
