Overview

Tozinameran (BNT162b2) is a nucleoside-modified messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccine developed by BioNTech in collaboration with Pfizer for the prevention of COVID-19. It consists of mRNA encoding the full-length SARS-CoV-2 spike protein, encapsulated in lipid nanoparticles (LNPs). Upon intramuscular injection, the LNPs facilitate the entry of mRNA into host cells, where it is translated into the spike protein. This protein then triggers an immune response, including the production of neutralizing antibodies and T-cell activation, providing protection against subsequent infection by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. It was the first COVID-19 vaccine to receive emergency use authorization and full approval in several countries.
