Drug intelligence / Profile preview
TP-2021 is a **κ-opioid receptor agonist** developed as a **ProNeura implant** formulation for the potential sustained treatment of **chronic pruritus** (persistent itch) and pain. It acts by selectively activating the **kappa opioid receptor**, resulting in antipruritic and analgesic effects. Preclinical animal studies have demonstrated that ProNeura-based TP-2021 implants provide prolonged suppression of itch behaviors and maintain sustained plasma concentrations of TP-2021 over weeks to months. The goal is to offer long-term medication delivery to avoid the need for frequent administration, potentially providing clinical benefit in chronic pruritus and related indications. The drug was initially developed by JT Pharmaceuticals and further advanced by Titan Pharmaceuticals, leveraging Titan’s ProNeura implant platform for long-acting delivery.
